500 Graphic Abortion Billboards Go Up in Slovakia Marking 50th Anniversary of Legalization
BRATISLAVA, September 7, 2007 (LifeSiteNews.com) - This year marks the 50th anniversary of the legalisation of abortion in Slovakia. In this time 1.37 million unborn children have been killed under the communist legizlation. The current population of Slovakia is only 5 million.
In order to show the Slovak people the reality of abortion, and to break the conspiracy of silence which surrounds this issue, the first phase of a new national campaign, Pravo Na Zivot, was launched this week with the public display of 500 graphic abortion billboards throughout the country and similar advertising on the Bratislava transportation networks.
The aims of the campaign are to educate the public and to demand full legal protection for innocent human life.
"Abortion is the most important human rights issue facing Slovakia today. Every year 14,000 children are killed by abortion. This is nearly 30 times the number of those killed in motor accidents and more than 100 times those murdered after birth," said spokeswoman Jana Tutkova.
"For too long abortion has been a public taboo hidden behind euphemism. By showing the public the horrific reality of what is going on in this country we are confident that that the law will be reformed. No one with a functioning conscience who sees these images can support abortion."
Pravo Na Zivot is being jointly run by the Centre for Bioethical Reform (CBR Europe) and Pastor Bonus.
