Psychiatrists Now Report First Case of "Climate Change Delusion" in Oceania

Guilt-stricken and terrified of quenching thirst and contributing to the doom of man-made global warming

SYDNEY, July 11, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Psychiatrists in Australia and New Zealand have diagnosed what they call their first case of "climate change delusion" in a 17-year-old boy, who was too guilt-stricken over his part in man-made global warming to drink water.

Herald Sun journalist Andrew Bolt first reported the find from the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry, Volume 42, Issue 4, April 2008, which Joshua Wolf and Robert Salo of Royal Children's Hospital describe as a "previously unreported phenomenon."

The report is entitled: "Water, water, everywhere, nor any drop to drink: climate change delusion."

"A 17-year-old man was referred to the inpatient psychiatric unit at Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne with an eight-month history of depressed mood ... He also ... had visions of apocalyptic events."

The report revealingly added, "The patient had also developed the belief that, due to climate change, his own water consumption could lead within days to the deaths of millions of people through exhaustion of water supplies."

The boy's case would perhaps be unremarkable if it were not for the fact that politicians and campaigners have been telling their citizens that their growing populations and consumption of the earth's resources will produce unprecedented catastrophe on the world.

In June LifeSiteNews reported the Australian Broadcasting Company developed a cartoonish interactive website directed toward young people called "PlanetSlayer." The site features a calculator, which actually tells people when they should die, "so you don't use more than your fair share of the earth's resources." According to "Prof. Schpinkee's greenhouse calculator," ABC believes the average working class Aussie should die at 9 years of age for consuming too much of earth's resources - a terrible psychological burden for those who take it to heart.

However Australia's leaders are taking the lead in telling Australians, they are playing into their own destruction - a claim that is highly disputable considering the vast island nation accounts for just 1.5 per cent of all man-made greenhouse gas emissions. As well, scientific studies have shown increased warming is a pre-industrial phenomenon that has more to do with natural factors than man. One such period of warming in the Middle Ages facilitated the Viking settlements of Greenland and NewFoundland (called Vinland for its vineyards) in the 10th and 11th centuries. The Greenland colonies were abandoned due the onset of the "Little Ice Age" in the 14th and 15th centuries.

"If we do not begin reducing the nation's levels of carbon pollution, Australia's economy will face more frequent and severe droughts, less water, reduced food production and devastation of areas such as the Great Barrier Reef and Kakadu wetlands," said Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

A Sydney Morning Herald report on Professor Ross Garnaut's government climate change study leads with the warning, "Australians must pay more for petrol, food and energy or ultimately face a rising death toll, economic loss and the eventual destruction of the Great Barrier Reef ..."

Although the scientific community is in dispute over the causation of climate change, environmentalist and population control groups have been pressuring governments to ignore natural factors and instead blame their citizens in order to advance drastic new government regulations limiting energy use.
