"The CRY" National Prayer Movement to Hold Rally in Ottawa
OTTAWA, July 22, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The CRY, an initiative emphasizing prayer, worship and fasting for the spiritual welfare of Canada, will be held in the nation's capital this August 23rd, 2008, beginning at 9:30am.
The CRY is a Christian inter-denominational national event that was first held in 2002. It is the brainchild of a group of Christian leaders who hoped to raise up a movement of young people in Canada that would petition heaven for God's mercy and favour on Canada.
The call went out and over 10,000 gathered on Parliament Hill in that first event. Four years later in 2006 another rally was organized with an estimated 12,000 participating.
This year the third national CRY event will be held on August 23, beginning at 9:30 am. It will take place in front of Parliament's Peace Tower as well as at Jacques Cartier Park, to honour of the 400th anniversary of the founding of Quebec City by Samuel de Champlain.
The organizers of this year's event say they believe in the power of prayer to change hearts, minds and entire nations.
The CRY website describes the organizers' desire to orchestrate a response to the negative consequences of "the sexual revolution, the new age movement, secular humanism, a movement of rebellion to authority and the women's movement which has transformed into the modern day pro-choice movement."
"40 years later we see how these movements have sunk their ideological claws into a generation and have produced a mass of social wreckage and a trail of shattered lives."
The answer to the crisis in Canada, say the organizers of CRY, is to turn to God in fervent prayer: "God has given the most powerful weapon in the universe into the hands of His Church: prayer and fasting. The power to turn our nation, completely, is in our hands. The 40 years of wandering in the desert of immorality is coming to a close and the Spirit of God is calling a new generation (young and old) to arise from the ashes to stand on guard for Canada like never before."
"We are standing on the platform of the prayers of generations past who laid down their lives faithfully for this nation. Now it is our turn. This is our time, this is our responsibility."
