A Gay Pride Celebration of the Order of Canada for Abortionist Morgentaler?

ST. JOHN'S, NL, July 31, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - According to an announcement by Planned Parenthood in St. John's, there will be a celebration of the nomination of abortionist Henry Morgentaler to the Order of Canada today at a pub at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. Participants in a scheduled Gay Pride trivia night and open mic on the same night at the same pub will likely also be inclined to join the Morgentaler festivities and vice-versa. Activists from both movements are often seen to attend and support each others events. Patrick Hanlon of the provincial Right to Life Association issued a press release wondering what the "anti-lifers" were celebrating.
"Are they celebrating that Mr. Morgentaler has re-opened the abortion debate?," asks Hanlon. He points out that "The Governor General's office has been inundated with calls, letters, and emails protesting Mr. Morgentaler's appointment.There have been more letters to the editor and calls to the open-line shows protesting abortion than ever before."
"Are they celebrating that the clear majority of Canadians disagree with this appointment?" he asks, citing the poll commissioned by Campaign Life Coalition showing 56% of Canadians opposed to the award. Hanlon concluded: "Mr. Morgentaler and his morbid work resulting in over 3,000,000 dead babies and countless other people being hurt since 1969, should not be celebrated. By this celebration, the Coalition for Access is showing a lack of respect and concern for humanity and the Order of Canada. Even worse, they are rubbing salt into the wounds of those suffering after having an abortion."
