Re: Encouragement

Dear Editor,

Having followed Lifesite for at least two years, I want to commend and encourage you in your work, which is surely difficult, not only in determining the accuracy of news items to be presented, but also the distressing nature of so much of what is presented, and the increasingly hostile environment of the western world. In Canada, you live and work in a more hostile environment than we do in the United States, but after the upcoming election, it is very reasonable to expect that we too will live under at least a less favorable, and perhaps very hostile government.

Much of what Christians in the West now face would have been unimaginable even ten years ago, and certainly thirty years ago. The attempt to silence churches and Christians through hate speech legislation, the attack on religious education reminiscent of the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe (where parents could not legally speak to their children about religion before the age of 18, while the state attempted massive atheist indoctrination), the denial of liberty of conscience, and the state interference in the internal affairs of Christian groups - most recently reported by you in the Christian Horizons decision and most recently in the Prospects decision in the United Kingdom - all show a clear attempt to destroy the Evangelical and Catholic subcultures (and that of any other religious group not conforming to the secularist vision). Could you report on how Christians who lived through communism in Eastern Europe view the current secularist attack on religion in the West today? How does it compare to the persecution under which they lived? Do they have ideas of how best to meet this threat?

As I witness this constant assault, I have to keep reminding myself that our faith must be in God, not in the religious subcultures in which we live, and which could be seriously impaired or destroyed in the future. But it is difficult, when all that one can do is follow the news, try to make other people aware (I have given some presentations about this at my church), make contributions to organizations that are fighting secularism, and pray. Please know that my prayers are with you and other Christians in Canada and around the world how are suffering from the secularist assault, and seeing the truth suppressed in the areas in which they live.

In Christ,

Re: "Candidates, Voters Questioned by Priests for Life on Gruesome Reality of Abortion"
http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2008/jun/08060401.html

Dear Editor

This was an excellent article regarding Fr. Frank Pavone speaking on abortion. It was so refreshing to hear the truth about this diabolical act committed on the child in the womb. I believe it is only by exposing the slaughter of these innocents that minds can be changed. Fr. Pavone is right on the mark when he says, "...Exactly how bad do things have to get in order for you to find your courage?" It takes courage to speak and show the truth and sadly there are those in our society today who would rather suppress and hide it.

Re: "Canadian Mainstream Media Reps Blast Bishops for Failing to Speak Out Strongly on Moral Issues"
http://www.lifesitenews.com/ldn/2008/may/08052911.html

Dear Editor,

I was quite surprised to read this article, but I think it is so true. The bishops usually issue a joint statement on some issues but we never hear any of them speak out publicly or individually except for cardinal Ouellet.

I have a lot admiration for the American people and the bishops but in Canada we seem so quiet and afraid.

Can we do something? Perhaps a petition to our bishops…to wake up this nation??
