Hungarian Parliament Prohibits "Degrading or Intimidating Behavior" towards Homosexuals
By Matthew Cullinan Hoffman
UNITED KINGDOM, November 13, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Hungarian Parliament has passed legislation prohibiting "degrading or intimidating behavior" towards homosexuals, according to the homosexualist news website Pinknews, which is based in the United Kingdom.
The legislation comes in response to massive public opposition to "Gay Pride" marches held in Budapest. Such marches, which are occurring in an increasing number of countries, often involve public nudity, simulated and real acts of sodomy, and the promotion of homosexual sexual behavior.
Similarly broad language has been used in legislation in other countries, such as Canada, France, and Britain, to prohibit speech denouncing homosexual behavior. Under such "hate speech" laws, ministers and other individuals in many Western countries have been fined and barred from speaking in public about their views on homosexuality.
Pinknews reports that the President of Hungary, Laszlo Solyom, has "vetoed previous attempts to regulate hate speech, and the Constitutional Court adopted a one-sidedly freedom of speech perspective on the issue," casting doubt on the future of the legislation.
