Dear editor:

As a long time pro-life activist writer it grieves me to be constantly reminded, and embarrassed, by the fact that our Cardinal Mahony, and other Church leaders, have been derelict in their duty to explain, clearly and emphatically to all Catholics, and particularly to high-profile politicians who scandalize the Catholic Church by their betrayal, that canon law stipulates that all who knowingly vote, support and/or promote abortion are ipso facto excommunicated. And without repentance, which our Governor and his first lady obviously do not have, it’s an immediate excommunication. The consequence of their choice is that they have stepped outside of the body of the Church, and are no longer Catholic.

Then to insult our intelligence further by saying that to be pro-choice is not to be pro-abortion is to abuse our language and the consequences of their actions. The effect of a pro-choice position is to invite the slaughter of our preborn citizens; the effect of a pro-life position is to protect the life of every single preborn citizen. Common sense cannot be ignored, and when it is, one wonders how such a mental deficiency can achieve the highest office in our once-Golden state of California. It will regain its integrity of Goldenness when the intentional destruction of human life has ended.

Our final conclusion has to be that we citizens of California have been negligent in our duty to study the issues and the people for whom we vote. We are all responsible to some degree for the horror of abortion that is nothing less than a barbaric destruction of our own children; a social suicide that robs us of citizenry, and their potential heritage, all of which will have a negative effect down through the ages.
