TORONTO, ON, October 1, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Yesterday Interim Publishing released the e-version of its book on Canada’s human rights commission, Tyranny of Nice: How Canada Crushes Freedom in the Name of Human Rights (and why it matters to Americans) by Kathy Shaidle and Pete Vere. Internationally renowned columnist and author Mark Steyn writes the introduction.

The book exposes how when it comes to the human rights commissions the “process is the punishment,” provides a thorough account of the two major cases from the past year that have made human rights commissions a hot topic and examines some the less famous cases that eluded media attention until Ezra Levant and Maclean’s were hauled before these kangaroo courts.

“This is the first book of its kind in Canada, and I’m proud to be one of the authors,” said co-author Kathy Shaidle, one of Canada’s most popular bloggers (www.fivefeetoffury.com).

She continued: “Many people are already familiar with Ezra Levant and Mark Steyn, who dared to challenge our Human Rights Commissions – those kangaroo courts that censor, scold, spy on and even bankrupt Canadians in the name of ‘tolerance’ and ‘political correctness.’ Our book tells the stories of Steyn and Levant, but also those of lesser known victims of the HRCs.”

“Canadians should be concerned with stripping away of our freedoms and civil liberties, which are the foundation of every vibrant democracy,” said co-author Pete Vere.

“From small pub owners who could potentially lose their business for enforcing a ban on marijuana smoking, to Christian pastors being silenced from the pulpit, to doctors being investigated for declining to operate when they lack the medical background to do so safely, Canada’s human rights commissions have created a culture of fear and distrust among ordinary Canadians.”

Vere added: “It is time for our politicians to show leadership and insure the rights of every Canadian are respected.”

Shaidle said her goal in writing the book was to “hasten the destruction of these unelected, unaccountable bureaucracies, as well as the repeal of Canada’s draconian ‘hate speech’ laws.”

The paperback version of the book will be released next week.

Interim Publishing released the Tyranny of Nice in both electronic and paperback versions to maximize the reach of the vitally important information about the human rights commissions contained within its pages.
