TORONTO, October 1, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Canada’s homosexual newspaper X-Tra and its affiliates have published a 16-page insert listing the candidates running in the October 14th election who are regarded as activists in the homosexualist political cause.

An Ottawa event organized this week by homosexualist activists, was noted for its absence of a candidate for the Conservative party. Tim Shufelt, writing in the Ottawa Citizen, said that with no Conservative present, the positions of the candidates from the other mainstream parties, “differed by mere degrees of agreement”. Represented at the debate, sponsored by Capital X-Tra and EGALE Canada, were the NDP, Green party, and Liberal candidates.

The Pink Triangle Press (PTP), Canada’s “gay and lesbian media group”, is calling on all Canadians to cast their votes to defeat the Conservative Party in the Oct 14 federal election. PTP published their 16-page insert in X-Tra, the paper based in Toronto and in Vancouver’s X-Tra West and Capital X-Tra in Ottawa. X-Tra is running an article this week titled, “Stephen Harper and the rising clout of Canada’s religious right ELECTION 2008: Why a Conservative majority is dangerous to sexual minorities”.

X-Tra lists the candidates being endorsed across Canada by the homosexual movement.

For the NDP, supported candidates are BC incumbents Bill Siksay and Libby Davies, who are seeking re-election in Burnaby-Douglas and Vancouver East respectively. For the Conservatives, Lorne Mayencourt, Vancouver Centre, is endorsed.

In the prairies, the gay lobby endorsement goes to NDP Clint Davidson of Saskatoon-Wanuskewin.

In Ontario, immigration lawyer and homosexualist activist El-Farouk Khaki of Toronto Centre, is listed. Andre Papadimitriou, running for the Green Party in Toronto’s York South-Weston riding and Liberals, Mario Silva and United Church minister Rob Oliphant in Toronto’s Davenport riding and Don Valley West receive the homosexual lobby nod.

In Quebec Amy Darwish and André Chauvette are running in Lasalle-Émard and Berthier-Maskinongé ridings. Bloc Québécois incumbent MP Réal Ménard is running in Hochelaga.

In Nova Scotia, Megan Leslie, a self-identified “queer activist” with a male “partner”, is running in Halifax . Liberal incumbents Scott Brison is running again in Kings-Hants. Liberal party candidate Catherine Meade is running in Halifax.

X-tra notes that Chris Reid, an environmental engineer and homosexual Conservative party candidate for the riding of Toronto-Centre, resigned from the race on September 20 after excerpts from his blog “Political Thoughts from a Gay Conservative” were uncovered.

Reid wrote of the homosexual community, “What I found them to tolerate is promoting promiscuity, drug usage and prostitution.” Reid also opposed gun restrictions, saying “This is where socialism has gotten us folks, a castrated effeminate population.”
