EU Declaration Tabled Demanding All Member States Recognize Same-sex "Marriage"
By Hilary White
BRUSSELS/LONDON, October 9, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Homosexual activists within the European Parliament have this week tabled a declaration demanding that all member states recognise the same-sex "marriages" and civil partnerships of all other member states.
The declaration was tabled today by British Liberal Democrat party Member of European Parliament (MEP) Sharon Bowles. It instructs, "Member States with existing same-sex partnership legislation to recognise the arrangements of other Member States that have also made provisions for same-sex partnerships," and for "guidelines for such mutual recognition by Member States with existing same-sex partnership legislation."
The declaration was tabled days after a speech at the European Parliament by Christine Loudes, the policy director of the European branch of the International Lesbian and Gay Association (ILGA-Europe). The speech was organised by the European Parliament's Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs on Fundamental Rights in the EU. Loudes commended the Fundamental Rights Agency's report on "homophobia in the EU" for including reference to "issues of freedom of movement and mutual recognition of LGBT families relationships in the EU."
One of the key tactics of the homosexualist movement has been to install either homosexual "marriage" or some form of civil recognition of their partnerings in one country or jurisdiction and then to urge activists to demand recognition in countries where they are not recognised through the use of civil suits. The declaration, should it be approved by the European Parliament, would force countries that have retained the legal definition of natural marriage to recognise same sex partnerings as legal for purposes of spousal benefits, tax considerations and other rights pertaining to marriage.
"The lack of recognition of existing relationships contravenes the rights to freedom of movement and the right to access benefits and pensions," Loudes said.
Three days after this speech, Sharon Bowles was ready with her declaration. If it is signed by over half the MEPs, it will become a resolution which can then be formally adopted by the European Parliament and forwarded to the EU Commission, Council and Member State governments for consideration.
