TORONTO, October 15, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Pro-life activist Linda Gibbons was remanded in custody to Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 10 a.m. in Room 507 of the Ontario Court of Justice at College Park in downtown Toronto after a brief appearance in that same courtroom this morning.

Handcuffed and wearing drab green prison coveralls, Gibbons did not acknowledge supporters in the courtroom and declined to speak to either the duty counsel or the presiding justice of the peace during the hearing. Her lawyer was unable to be present and had asked the court earlier for an adjournment.

Gibbons has been charged with disobeying a court order following her arrest outside the Scott “Clinic” abortion site in downtown Toronto on Oct. 8. The court order concerns a 14-year-old “temporary” injunction that bans pro-life activity within a 20-metre zone around the site. The latest charge marks a departure from the Crown attorney office’s continual practice over the 14-year-period of charging Gibbons with obstructing a peace officer.
