One Month Till 16th Annual Catholic Week of Prayer and Fasting for Life - October 5-13, 2008
WASHINGTON, September 5, 2008 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The International Catholic Week of Prayer and Fasting is now in its 16th year and is gaining momentum like never before. With the fast approaching presidential elections, the expansion of the group's mission has become even more vital to building a culture of life say organizers of the effort.
Coalition Chairperson Maureen Flynn says she believes the mission of organizing prayers for world peace, life issues, and the upcoming presidential election has never been needed more. Flynn states: "Our country is at a crossroads and many Americans sense the critical importance of this election and the need for prayer."
She added: "In the past 35 years, we have allowed another form of terrorism, the killing of the innocent unborn child. There are 1.3 million abortions a year in the United States. Globally, we have allowed child sacrifice and are now in danger of having a president who supports infanticide. In the Old Testament, the ultimate sin that brought about judgment on nations was the sin of child sacrifice. As Blessed Teresa of Calcutta said, 'the poorest of the poor is the unborn child.'"
There will be three national events held in Washington D.C. The goals of the week are: the conversion of nations, world peace and the building of a culture of life. The theme this year is mercy, hope, and healing. The Coalition is asking for people to participate as individuals, families, and parishes by organizing and participating in the following: fasting, daily Mass, and prayers, including but not limited to Holy Hours, Rosaries, Divine Mercy Chaplets and Confession.
