Support the Underdogs

Good Day Friends,

You and I and all those fighting for life and family - in the eyes of the world, we are the underdogs.

The opposition is armed with an arsenal in the multi-billions, and the punches of their destructive NGOs, organizations, media services, governments and other national, and international forces, carry great weight.

But, as LSN Managing Director Steve Jalsevac alluded to in "Beggars vs Giants", so did the pebble that David whirled from his slingshot. Actually, it carried more weight. It had more lasting effect than all of Goliath's armor, strength and training.

The theme of the underdog, one prevalent throughout the Bible, as well as in our favorite movies, books and historical accounts, is carried out to a "T" in the battle for life and family.

And as Christmas quickly approaches, we celebrate the beginning of the greatest underdog story of them all - the birth of Jesus.

The Infinite Creator manifested himself in the most vulnerable of human states in Mary's womb.  He was born to an ignoble family and in a place fit only for the animals.  His humble birth set the stage for his life spent amongst the poor, outcasts, prostitutes, and the other dregs of society.

The perennial message that Our Lord wishes us to take from his lowly birth bears more significance then I or anyone could ever hope to fully understand.  But it is obvious that, in the eyes of the world, Jesus was the underdog.

So if the path of the underdog was the path of Christ, we journey it with pride and with confidence.

LifeSiteNews is unarguably an underdog in this fight for the proclamation of truth.  We are constantly struggling to make ends meet and moving forward is always a lengthy and laborious task.

The normal rules of effort, skill, planning and logically expected results often just do not apply. After all, as Peter Kreeft says, our real enemy is "Principalities and Powers."

We live and work outside the social norm, of the politically correct, of the comfortable, and this certainly is one reason why we are still forced to do what we do with a budget that is quite simply miniscule compared to those we oppose.

Take a look at this excerpt taken from a recent fundraising letter from the notoriously anti-life, anti-family and anti-freedom, ACLU:

"Here is the situation: The ACLU was recently notified that our largest individual donor, David Gelbaum, who contributed over $20 million to the organization in 2009, will not be able to continue his support due to a change in his financial circumstances.

In one fell swoop, we have lost 22% of the entire organization's budget."

$20 million! And that is only 22% of their budget. The letter then goes on to ask for 100,000 donations to make up for their loss.  I cannot even fathom the degree of evil this type of money, in the hands of a group as militantly morally relativistic as the ACLU, will enable.

At the opposite extreme, we are asking for just $5 (more if they are able) from each of our readers.

Will you help us prepare for 2010?

We don't mind being the underdogs.  In fact, if we weren't, it just wouldn't feel right! It would indicate that we are not doing our job at this time in history.

But there is a minimum financial amount needed to operate LifeSiteNews and there is a very real risk that that need won't be met.  We therefore need you to donate a small amount or a large amount today, and then pray that it will multiply like the fish and the loaves.

We considered reducing our $100,000 goal for this campaign due to the fact that we are only 50% of the way just a week before Christmas.  But then we wouldn't be presenting our situation in a truthful manner to our readers, because, quite simply we really need to reach that goal.

Our $100,000 goal is dictated by our expenses.  It is, in fact, the very minimum that we require to carry on. We stretch what we received an much as is humanly possible. Almost all of our staff work from their homes in quite humble circumstances.

We are deeply grateful to those who have contributed to this mission - underdogs though we may be.  If you have not donated, please consider even $5 or $10 this Christmas.

Following the example of Christ before us, we will continue to trudge on with little worldly wealth or status, but armed with the weapon that defeated death itself and saves souls - the Truth.
