MADRID, July 16, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Spanish pro-lifers are expressing outrage over the decision by the Barcelona Medical College to rehabilitate Spain's disgraced "abortion mogul" Carlos Morin, a little over a year after he and his clinic personnel were accused of performing illegal late-term abortions on babies at up to eight months gestation, and illegally disposing of fetal remains after grinding them up in industrial strength food processors.

After spending two months in jail, Morin was released in early 2008 pending the outcome of his trial. However, the terms of his release do not permit him to practice medicine or even approach one of his clinics.

Although Morin has not yet been convicted of the charges, the evidence of fraudulent practices to justify late-term abortions has been well-documented in English and Danish undercover investigations, at least one of which used a hidden camera.  Media coverage following Morin's arrest has also revealed that he was already convicted and imprisoned in 1989 for crimes related to his abortion business.

However despite the substantial evidence against Morin, the Barcelona Medical College (COMB) has restored him to good standing in the organization after having suspended him for lack of dues, and is falsely claiming that the exercise of his medical faculties has not been limited in any way, according to the pro-life news service Forum Libertas.

"No order has been given against him to limit this exercise," a COMB representative told Forum Libertas. "Everything is pending until the judge dictates something...only the judge can make decisions."

According to Forum Libertas, however, the court overseeing Morin's criminal trial "dictated on January 24, 2008, that the doctor Carlos Morin has a 'temporary prohibition against exercising any medical act of identical or similar nature' of that which he was carrying out 'during a period of two years, or, if applicable, as long as the case has not been concluded...'"

Morin is called Spain's "abortion mogul" because he owns several chains of abortion facilities and is one of the largest abortion providers in Europe.  Charges against the facilities extend not only to Morin's personal behavior but to employees of his abortion empire.

At his trial, which is ongoing, Morin has reportedly admitted that he did abortions on dozens of young adolescent girls, down to 13 years of age.

The pro-life activist group HazteOir ("Make Yourself Heard") is asking readers to contact  COMB in protest (e-mail: col.metges@comb.es).
