News

Dear readers,

The storm of activity and controversy over the Obama administration's health care bill is ongoing. We have been giving it lots of attention because it portends a potentially devastating blow to all efforts to protect the dignity and sacredness of human life in the United States. This is very big news. It is FOCA by stealth.

Almost everyone agrees the US health care system needs repair, but the Obamacrats are exploiting this real need, as ideologues are always prone to do, and using it to force another very unwelcome and destructive agenda upon the people.

We dropped the ball on our references to Democrat Congressmen Tim Ryan in a Wednesday report. We mistakenly reported him as being pro-life. That was him in the past. Today's report tells it like it is now. As a pro-life Democrat leader recently stated, “we've lost Tim.” He has gone to the Dark Side.

China is finally starting to wake up to the error of its forced one-child policy, but it is likely too late to avoid the deadly, long-term consequences upon the nation.

Still more good news to report on the Canadian Development and Peace front as Vancouver Archbishop Miller, while not yet announcing his decision on the matter, has said he “strongly supports” the actions of Toronto Archbishop Collins.

As we reported with great relief on Thursday, the release by Archbishop Collins reflected what we consider to be a wise and responsible diocesan solution to the Development and Peace scandal. And, as we hoped that many other Canadian bishops would imitate his thoughtful response, Archbishop Miller has begun that movement.

Archbishop Collins restricted the funds given to D&P and also said that future funding to the organization is dependent on a “profound renewal” of the organization. See that coverage. In other words, he has given significant credibility to our numerous reports on D&P.

We have put hundreds of hours of often exhausting effort leading the investigation and reporting on this issue. Thankfully, it appears substantial good will finally result from the efforts by ourselves, our many collaborators in various countries and John Pacheco (Socon or Bust) and others who followed up and also took part in the investigations in order to bring about much needed change. It is by no means over yet, but we seem to be getting there.

We're expecting an announcement from the Vancouver archdiocese in the coming days.

As for the Saskatechewan marriage commissioner story, it is just another of numerous confirmations that court decisions and legislative changes in favour of “equal rights” for homosexuals consistently result in denial of fundamental rights for those who oppose homosexuality (rather than homosexual persons themselves). This is dangerous stuff that cannot but lead to great harm to any society that allows it to continue.
