Development and Peace Also Supporting Pro-Abortion Group in Bolivia: National Catholic Register

BOLIVIA, March 18, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - The Canadian Catholic Organization for Development and Peace (CCODP) is funding at least one pro-abortion organization in Bolivia, according to an article published yesterday by the National Catholic Register.
The group, known as the Center for Promotion and Integral Health (Centro de Promocion y Salud Integral, or CEPROSI) is one of the "the most militant, radical, and active" organizations pushing to legalize abortion in the country, according to Bolivian pro-life attorney Susana Inch Sainz, as quoted by the Register.
Sainz reportedly told the newspaper that CEPROSI was involved in the creation of the 'Vigilant Round Table of Sexual and Reproductive Rights,' and the 'Regional Committees for Sexual of Reproductive Health,' which advocate the legalization of abortion at the grassroots level, and supported a bill to legalize abortion in Bolivia in the 2004-2005 legislative year, which was narrowly defeated.
CCODP's current five year funding program lists CEPROSI as a "partner" and says that funding is being given to the group for "education around community health and prevention" and "strengthening institutions." Funding levels are not specified in the program.
In addition, the Canadian International Development Agency has awarded over $88,000 CAD to CEPROSI over the period 2007-2010.
As LifeSiteNews reported last week, the CCODP is funding several "partners" in Mexico that support the legalization of abortion. International and Latin American pro-life organizations have denounced the organization's link to such groups. Archbishop Thomas Collins of Toronto has called for a full investigation and has hinted that he might withhold this year's funds raised in the Lenten "Share Life" campaign if his concerns are not addressed.
