PETERBOROUGH, ON, March 26, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Peterborough Bishop Nicola De Angelis has issued a new letter to all pastors and parishioners in the diocese noting that the Development and Peace Lenten collection will go ahead as scheduled this weekend.  However, he notes that "money will not be sent on to Development and Peace until the investigation is complete and allegations are found to have no substance."

The investigations refer to LifeSiteNews.com stories which have provided evidence that D&P, the official development arm of the Canadian bishops conference, is funding groups that advocate for abortion.  The original LifeSiteNews.com information only concerned groups in Mexico, but subsequent reports have found that such abortion advocacy groups in receipt of D&P funds throughout Latin America and Africa.

Bishop De Angelis says in his March 25 letter, that, "If allegations are found to be true, money collected will be sent to another charity operating in the Third World that is faithful to the teachings of the Catholic Church."
