OBAMA

The Push for Power by Obama Will Not Moderate
A conservative activist and former presidential candidate says despite the recent election setbacks, he does not think President Obama will moderate his ways and that he will continue to push his left wing agenda on the American people.

Gary Bauer, Chairman of American Values, says, "I really believe the evidence is overwhelming that President Obama is committed to making fundamental, unchangeable alterations in American society. I think he believes [the] government ought to run more of the economy [and] that successful people ought to be paying much higher taxes." Bauer does not think the recent gubernatorial election setbacks will dissuade the president from his agenda.

Czars Along the Potomac
All along the Potomac, we now observe an array of potentates not seen since the days of imperial Europe. Were they to stand side by side, they would equal the width of a U.S. Navy destroyer. These government chieftains, now loosely known as czars, are so numerous as to almost constitute a shadow government. A visitor to our country might ask if the Russian empire has been resurrected and Constantinople is being threatened again.

These czars have been quietly and purposefully appointed while the American people were looking the other way -- at Afghanistan, health care, Iran, Iraq, North Korea, missile defenses in Europe, and outrage over bailouts and executive pay -- at things that matter.

OTHER US POLITICS

A GOP 'clarifying moment' in Calif. Primary
The conservative challenging GOP establishment-backed candidate Carly Fiorina in the 2010 Republican U.S. Senate primary in California says his campaign is putting the lie to the notion that the Party needs a moderate, self-funded businesswoman to defeat incumbent Democrat Barbara Boxer.

Scozzafava Repeat In California?
With memories of NY-23 fresh in the minds of conservative activists, the fight over California’s GOP Senate nominee to potentially unseat Barbara Boxer has turned into a game of “who is conservative enough?” Carly Fiorina is playing defense.

Another 'John Paul II' Catholic Runs for Congress by Deal W. Hudson
On October 30, Brian Rooney, an attorney for the Thomas More Law Center, filed his papers to run for Michigan's 7th Congressional Seat. Rooney had initially put aside his political plans when his son Blaise was born with a congenital heart defect in February, but the fight to save his son's life in the midst of the national health-care debate convinced him to enter the race.
Rooney says his three role models are Ronald Reagan, Margaret Thatcher, and Pope John Paul II.

Challenges for a Republican Renaissance by Star Parker
We cannot lose sight that we won't have a prosperous nation without free markets and limited government as our constitution originally intended. But we also must recognize that a free economy cannot function without trust, that trust will not exist without a moral people, and that the means through which values and morality are transmitted, generation to generation, is family.

Those who don't appreciate the importance of the social agenda should consider that when Ronald Reagan was elected in 1980, 18 percent of American babies were born to unwed mothers. Today it is 40 percent. This kind of family disintegration is incompatible with a free and functioning society.

If the Republican Party is to have a future, it must reach non-white Americans, most of whom have been voting for Democrats. Can this be done with success? Yes. And this is where the two challenges converge.

Fear of The Mother Palin
In his eye-opening, astute new book, The Persecution of Sarah Palin, Matthew Continetti argues that the "story of Sarah Palin is the story of American political journalism's intellectual bankruptcy.  The ferocity of the Palin episode was unique, because her nomination to the vice presidency came as an absolute shock to the media.

Palin's tradition of Christianity was absolutely central to the liberal critique. Simply put, the American left blanches at public expressions of religiosity and believes that political figures should mention their faith only in service of liberal policy aims.

Victory for Palin's enemies would come if they succeeded in their attempts to drive her out of public life. That hasn't happened. If anything, she has become more powerful, more influential, over time. Alaska was holding her down. So she broke free. And now she can speak out as often as she wants.

Bursting the Economist's Population Bubble
The unsigned article posits that since economic prosperity tends to correlate with lower birth rates, the move toward replacement and below-replacement level fertility in the developing world actually bodes well both for them and for us.

What The Economist calls a "boon" for the developing world is more akin to a bubble, as in the recent housing bubble in the United States. Below replacement fertility which appears to come with economic prosperity will likely have even more devastating consequences for the developing world in a few short years than it will have in the rich nations.

The subtitle of the Economist's article is exactly wrong. The population problem is not solving itself. In half of the world the next generation will not replace their parents. Human suffering on a massive scale in graying societies is sure to follow as many of these countries have generous social programs; programs which are unsustainable without a growing population and commensurate increasing tax base.

Google and Facebook Teach Vatican the Mysteries of the Internet
Two very different worlds collide this week when web-savvy executives of Google, Facebook, YouTube and Wikipedia meet representatives of the Vatican to explain the mysteries of the internet.

Freedom of Information: Stalled at CDC and D.C. Government - Sharyl Attkisson CBS News
In August 2009, CBS News made a simple request of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for public documents, e-mails and other materials CDC used to communicate to states the decision to stop testing individual cases of Novel H1N1, or “swine flu.” When the public affairs folks at CDC refused to produce the documents and quit responding to my queries altogether, I filed a formal Freedom of Information (FOI) request for the materials. Members of the news media are entitled to expedited access, which I requested, since this was for a pending news report and on an issue of public health and interest.

Two months after my FOI request, the CDC has yet to produce any of these easily retrievable materials. Sadly, this is of little surprise. This has become standard operating procedure in Washington.

Today, I received a letter from the CDC Freedom of Information office, which even by the normal baffling standards, borders on the absurd. The letter is to inform me that my request for “expedited” treatment of my FOI request has been denied because CDC has determined the request is “not a matter of widespread and exceptional media and public interest.”

Nun-Physician Who Attacked Vaccine Has Controversial Past But Raises Questions
In our view, the fact that Sister Forcades held a pro-choice position (use Google translate to translate Spanish into English) compromised the trust we could place in her judgment of other matters -- including what she had to say about swine flu.  She is author of The Crimes of the Great Pharmaceutical Companies, a book that denounces the political and economic power acquired by the drug corporations. Thus, when it comes to "Big Pharma" (as the pharmaceutical giants are known), she is not entirely objective.

But to many, what the nun-physician had to say was galvanizing. For in a low-key, methodical, and scientific manner, she mirrored what others in the "alternative media" have been asserting, some with legitimate concerns, some with questionable facts, which we will now endeavor to explore: that something unusual is afoot in recent epidemics and vaccinations.

Winning With Marriage
Another year, another electoral victory. Opposing gay marriage is a loser of a position. That, at least, is what everyone seems to say, all along the political spectrum. Everyone, that is, except voters.
