AUGUSTA, October 13, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Homosexual advocates have released a new ad in Maine featuring an older woman and two homosexual men – one of whom is evidently the woman's son – urging Maine voters to approve same-sex 'marriage.'

The woman in the new commercial speaks about her son's homosexual relationship, her Catholic faith and the importance of the institution of marriage, but then urges voters to support same-sex 'marriage.'

“My faith means a lot to me,” says the woman. “Marriage to me is a great institution, it works, and it's what I want for my children too. I know that the people of Maine will see that.”

Same-sex 'marriage' is currently legal in Maine, but various groups are currently battling over a November 3 ballot measure that would repeal the same-sex 'marriage' measure. The 'marriage' law, which was signed by Gov. John Baldacci in May, has not yet gone into effect, pending the result of the upcoming vote.

CatholicVoteAction.org President Brian Burch responded to the ad, however, pointing out that, “For decades gay and lesbian groups have attacked the Catholic Church for refusing to accept their skewed views on human sexuality and marriage. Having lost that battle, they have now launched this desperate and despicable attempt to curry favor with Catholics by pretending that the Catholic faith supports their radical agenda.”

Burch pointed out that “gay marriage groups have lost virtually every ballot question put before the people for a vote, including a major defeat in California last November.”

“They are no longer content to defend their radical beliefs on their own, and instead have stooped to lying about the Catholic Church and its teachings, proof that gay activists will stop at nothing to promote their agenda.”

“Everybody knows the Catholic Church is opposed to counterfeit marriages,” said Burch. “The Church believes marriage is a natural institution, vindicated by common reason that serves both men and women, and the needs of children. We call on Protect Maine Equality to stop lying about our faith and to immediately pull this ad.”

Meanwhile, financial reports indicate that the campaign to promote homosexual 'marriage' has outspent that seeking to protect traditional marriage approximately $2.6 million to $1.1 million. Marc Mutty, campaign chair of Stand for Marriage Maine, the official campaign of Yes on Question 1, notes however that despite the spending difference, “the fate of Question 1 is too close to call.”

Mutty added: “Mainers won't be bought. The Maine contributors to our campaign see through our opponent's name calling and smear tactics for what it is: an exceedingly well-funded effort from outside of Maine, yet one that simply cannot stand up against the facts we present.”
