1,800 Carry Cross of Abortion on Good Friday at Minn. Planned Parenthood

By Kathleen Gilbert

ST. PAUL, Minnesota, April 8, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – On Good Friday, the headquarters of Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota witnessed a large gathering of pro-life witnesses demonstrating against the suffering caused by abortion, in union with Jesus’ death on the cross.

The annual Good Friday All-Day Prayer Vigil, which attracted about 1,800 pro-lifers praying throughout the day, was organized by Pro-Life Action Ministries.

PLAM executive director Brian Gibson reported that the event “was another amazing success.” “About 1,800 Christians participated in this solemn time of prayer despite the threat of rain in the morning and on-and-off rain most of the afternoon (including a good downpour a couple of times),” wrote Gibson in an email to supporters.

A life-size wooden cross served as the focus of attention, as one of 15 local religious leaders, including Archbishop John Nienstedt of St. Paul and Minneapolis, took half-hour turns throughout the day reading Scripture, preaching, and leading the crowd in prayer.

Gibson reported that “Planned Parenthood (PP) aided in our time of prayer with scores of supporters coming who cheered the death of the innocent, jeered and mocked us, providing a fuller experiential glimpse of what Jesus endured for the salvation of the world which includes those PP supporters.”

“My prayer for this event is that all who attend are enriched by God with an experience that aids them in a fuller understanding of what Jesus endured on the day He died for our salvation,” said Gibson.

“And that we see the reality of the great harm abortion is to all of us, the need for repentance and forgiveness in Christ, and the need to continue this all-important work of stopping this evil.”
