Ottawa Parish Group Promoting Gay Pride

By Patrick B. Craine

OTTAWA, Ontario, August 25, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The young adult group at a Catholic parish in Ottawa is promoting the city’s homosexual Pride parade this weekend.

The young adult faith community at St. Joseph’s Parish has advertised on their blog that the “Gay Catholics, Christians and Allies” group at the University of Ottawa is rallying supporters to march as a group at the Capital Pride march this Sunday, August 29.

The ad notes that the group “wants gay persons to be welcomed by the official Christian churches.”

The Catechism of the Catholic Church insists that homosexuals “must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity,” and condemns any form of “unjust discrimination” against them.

At the same time, the Catechism affirms the Church’s traditional teaching that homosexual inclinations are “objectively disordered” and homosexual acts are “acts of grave depravity.” “Under no circumstances can they be approved,” it states.

St. Joseph’s Parish, which is run by the Oblates, hosts a weekly university Mass.

The group’s promotion of the march was first reported by Suzanne Fortin on her blog, Big Blue Wave.

LifeSiteNews spoke with Ginette Chaumont, communications officer for the Archdiocese of Ottawa, but did not hear back from Archbishop Terrence Prendergast by press time.
