Homosexual Activist Keith Norton Dies at 69

TORONTO, Ontario, February 8, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Homosexual activist Keith Norton died January 31st of cancer in a Toronto hospital at the age of 69.

Mr. Norton served in the Ontario provincial legislature for Kingston and the Islands from 1975-1985, taking up several cabinet positions.  In 1992, he was made head of the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal.  In 1996, Premier Mike Harris appointed him chief commissioner of the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC), a post he held until 2005.

In his work with the OHRC, he is credited in particular with fighting age discrimination and of advocating for the disabled, as well as promoting homosexual “rights.”

Fr. Alphonse de Valk, editor of Catholic Insight magazine, told LifeSiteNews that it was Norton who “set the tone” for the human rights commission to take up the homosexual cause.  Norton “took the human rights commission in the direction where all of them have gone,” he said, “[taking] up the homosexual cause as their lead cause.”

However, Mary Ellen Douglas, national organizer for Campaign Life Coalition, who was a constituent of Norton's Kingston riding, told LSN that Norton “was always very helpful to us here.  He was quite an open person to go in and see.”

While she acknowledged he was “not on side” with the pro-life and pro-family movement, she said, “I think he was a good person.”

“We're praying for him,” she added.
