Virginia Memorial for Unborn Vandalized

By James Tillman

FRANKLIN, Virginia, June 7, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) — Vandals have broken and uprooted dozens of the 275 crosses set up by Rock Church in Franklin, Virginia to symbolize the victims of abortion.

Rock Church has been putting the crosses up since April. Each cross stands for 10 babies killed by abortion.

A sign by the crosses explains that in Hampton Roads, where Rock Church is located, 175 babies die of abortion every week. Seventeen crosses are added each week to represent those babies.

“My hope would be that it’s just some young kids, you know, who were out for a thrill and knocking this down,” said Mark Cicero of Rock Church. He said it looked like someone had driven a vehicle over the crosses.

The Rev. David Dillon, pastor of the church, said he was disappointed.

“To me the crosses are memorials,” Dillon said. “This was an attempt to give babies, who never had a chance to speak, that chance. It’s not a cemetery, but it’s representative of these lives.”

He said Rock Creek would continue its effort, however. “That’s what the process of being pro-life is all about,” he said. “It’s about continually regrouping and standing against a force that would do this type of thing.”

Similar cases of the destruction of pro-life displays have occurred on Princeton University, Baylor University, the University of Calgary, the University of Kentucky and elsewhere.

Human Life International has documented thousands of illegal and violent acts by abortionists and abortion supporters at their “abortion violence” website.
