HLI Asks Prayers for Kenya as it Faces Referendum on Pro-Abort Constitution

July 16, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In less than three weeks, on August 4, the East African country of Kenya will be holding a referendum of the people to vote on a revision of their national Constitution (Americans use radical Justices of the Supreme Court to amend our Constitution – but that’s another matter). The problem with this “revision” of the Kenyan Constitution is that it would de facto legalize abortion on demand in that land and perhaps even lead to a domino effect in other African countries to do the same.
The nation of Barack Obama’s father has been in the crosshairs of the abortion lobby for a long time. It is an influential nation very open to western influence and so it is considered to be a key player in getting the abortion tsunami rolling throughout the continent that has largely stayed abortion free.
There are a few relevant items about this Constitutional revision campaign that you need to know:
– The Obama Administration has already admitted that it infused a couple million dollars of our tax money for a so-called “civic education” campaign to get the people to vote in favor of the revision – but investigators suspect that they have given more like $10-11 million.
– Vice President Joe Biden visited Kenya in June to lobby for the constitutional revision promising that, if so, it would “allow money to flow” (I guess we should expect that attitude from an administration that has no compunction about the flow of oil in the Gulf of Mexico). The Kenyan revision would also enshrine Sharia Law for Muslims and create a discriminatory legal system within the country.
– The Catholic bishops of Kenya have come out strongly against the constitutional revision for the above reasons and are urging their people to vote “No.”
– Some high profile people leading the charge against the abortion referendum have had their lives threatened.
HLI has had a long relationship with pro-lifers in Kenya and has had an official affiliate there since the mid-90s. We can say that the good people who are collaborating with HLI are doing all they can at the grass-roots level to make people aware of the radical nature of this so-called revision. They are conducting their own educational campaign to let people know how much this western-style constitution will militate against their basic values and asking them to vote “No” in union with the Catholic bishops. As faithful Catholics, we must strengthen our brothers and sisters in the communion of saints to reject the works of evil and to protect the most precious gift of life.
Now HLI is calling for the assistance of all men and women of good will to join us in a prayer campaign to stop this evil.
HLI’s campaign will consist of one and only one thing: PRAY before Christ in the Blessed Sacrament for this intention. Daily Mass if possible, Eucharistic Adoration, Sunday Mass and other Eucharistic devotions: all of these intentions will storm heaven for the babies of Kenya.
