The Power of the Media
Dear Friends of LifeSiteNews,
In these difficult financial times an increasing number of people are telling me about the overwhelming number of “gimme” letters they are receiving. With only a certain amount of income available for charitable organizations, more and more people are feeling torn about which groups to donate to.
Because many great organizations need money, those who give have to prioritize.
However, as you engage in this necessary process of prioritization, I urge you to consider the fact that while many non-profits are nobly working to improve the lives of the sick and the poor, only the pro-life movement is fighting for the right to life itself.
Without the right to life, no other right, including that of having decent living conditions, has any foundation. Once you attack the fundamental right to life, all the other rights begin to fall in turn.
This is why countries that have long accepted abortion are now legalizing euthanasia, or pioneering methods of “eugenic” abortions, to make sure that the poor and the sick are killed before they even have the chance to be born.
And this is also why many religious and cultural leaders have called the work to promote a Culture of Life the most important work on earth.
The mission of LifeSiteNews.com undoubtedly forms a crucial part of that “most important” work. We are one of only a few pro-life and pro-family organizations that are effectively using the power of the media to disseminate the truth about the life and family issues to literally millions of readers.
It is difficult to understate the importance of what we do. Consider the fact that for the average person, the media is the main source of information that keeps them up-to date on the breaking issues. Thankfully there is more skepticism about the mainstream media these days, and yet the public still does not fully comprehend how much the media redefines, molds and corrupts their personal and community values.
Ask yourself this question: if you wished to raise your children to respect life and family, what would you be least willing to expose them to?
For me, the answer is an easy one: the mainstream media. More than any other source I know of, the media attacks the right to life, the goodness of the natural family and marriage, the rights of parents and the power of faith.
Is it any surprise then that so many of our children, who are so plugged into the media, are growing up to embrace values that directly contradict the values of the Culture of Life?
So how do we combat this insidious influence? By providing an alternative source of information about the life and family issues – a source that respects age-old natural law and Judeo-Christian values.
This is why it is so important that LifeSiteNews.com be provided with the means to continue its mission. It is imperative that the next generations have a place to go where they can find the truth about the life and family issues.
In fact I know and have spoken to many young people who no longer turn to the mainstream media and television, but to LSN to stay informed of these crucial issues. After reading LSN even for a short while, they become increasingly aware of the bias of the mainstream media and the corrupting influence of much of what they find on television, in the movies, and on the radio, the Internet, and billboards.
In this way, LSN is arming the youth of today to continue the battle for Good. LSN is arming them to defend life, family, faith and the future.
