If Only Someone Had Warned Them

Dear LifeSiteNews Readers,

Today we again installed our popular fundraising campaign thermometer on the LifeSiteNews.com (LSN) website. At a glance it shows you the donations to date and what is still needed to achieve the campaign goal. Because it keeps moving as donations come in, many supporters have told us that they really appreciate this device.

Recently, in our ongoing search for funding, we learned that a wealthy pro-life individual publicly announced he was going to fund a group that presented him with a plan that had the most baby-saving potential.

He wanted hard numbers – that is, he wanted to know EXACTLY how many babies would be saved.

Of course I immediately prepared and submitted our proposal. But, while I had high hopes, I also had realistic expectations. The problem was that in our case the number of lives saved through our work is not an exact number, but a word – countless.

Many charitable organizations work towards direct, measurable results. But LSN is different.

We deal in information, and, more importantly, in the truth. Our work creates a ripple that grows as it spreads until it becomes a wave of courageous actions generating needed cultural change. Some of the LSN successes that we have shared with you in the past have led literally to countless lives being saved and hearts and minds converted.

Unfortunately, however, we have found that it is very easy for people to stop at the ripple and to miss the wave – or at least fail to acknowledge where it started. This was possibly the case with the above wealthy individual.

In hindsight, I probably should have told him that if he really wanted to know how necessary LSN is, he should simply ask himself how our society reached the point it’s at. The answer is that the culture of death has permeated so deeply because to a large degree it has the mainstream media on its side.

Information is power. And the media largely defines what information is or isn’t revealed, and, almost as importantly, how it is revealed.

Unfortunately the pro-life and pro-family movements have long witnessed their work in defence of life and truth being maligned, distorted, and condemned by the media. Is it any wonder then that the culture of death has made such headway?

This situation can no longer persist; it must not persist.

This, of course, is where LSN comes in.

Consider, for example, the fact that the current president of the United States is potentially on the verge of ramming through a health care bill that will transform the U.S. into one of the most pro-abortion nations on the planet.

Ironically, polls have consistently shown that the abortion funding in the health bill is wildly unpopular with American voters. Clearly, therefore, many of those who voted for Obama didn’t actually agree with his agenda. Instead, it seems that they were simply distracted and taken in by the media’s adoration of the president. And now they are surprised by his anti-life extremism.

If only someone had warned them

In fairness, however, well before the election our readers were warned – repeatedly and emphatically. No one who read LSN could possibly claim ignorance about Obama’s anti-life record and agenda.

We carefully researched, documented, and reported what we found out about Obama’s extreme past, and his clear statements about his plans for the future. For our readers, there was no mistaking who Obama was, and what he intended to do.

But if only we had had the ability to reach more of the American public!

This, and reaching the rest of the world as well, is what LSN hopes to be able to do – and we’re so close. With your help we can get there.

A donor and I were chatting on the telephone recently about the growing number of good causes asking people for funds: “Well, yours is the important one, ” he stated. I think he was right.

Money is a necessary thing, and a good thing when it is in the hands of the right people. Given our track record of exerting a powerful positive influence for life and family, we believe that we have proven that we are the right people for the job.

With your help LSN can become an even more effective tool to disseminate the truth, and counter the manipulations and destructive lies of the anti-life media.

So far, however, we have raised only $12,150 toward our $45,000 goal, and our Tuesday, March 23 deadline is quickly approaching! So please make a donation today. It is a donation for truth, for life, and for the family.
