Heroes Campaign Goes Over the Top

Dear Readers,

The LifeSiteNews team is moved by the unexpected, very generous response from so many to Monday’s letter. Thank you not only for your contributions, but also, and especially, for the many strong words of encouragement and gratitude for our work that were received.

Our letter opened a lot of eyes to the struggles that we encounter in providing this service. It seemed to be an appropriate time to share that information, much of which we have kept to ourselves for some months. We felt our readers had a right to that information which is also legitimate news, although more LifeSiteNews focused.

As you may be aware from the website donation thermometer, we have amazingly now met and exceeded our campaign goal of $45,000 by at least an additional $1,000, with undoubtedly still more to come in by mail!

Although it was explained early in the campaign that our expenses for 2010 are expected to be in excess of $500,000, we set only that modest goal of $45,000 for this first campaign of the year. That was because anytime in the first three months of a new year is always the most difficult time to raise funds. But necessity moved us to get going regardless. Even then, after the first week, it did not appear we would get anywhere near to reaching our limited goal, which is less than 10% of our 2010 total need.

Ideally, we should have set a goal of $125,000 for each of our quarterly campaigns to make up the $500,000 total. However, that is not how fundraising works. There are always different levels of disposable income available at different times of the yearly cycle. So, for March we aimed for just what we thought would be feasible and enough to get by for a while.

The unexpected extra that has been coming in will thankfully ease the burden until the next campaign and allow us to continue onward and forward with this exciting and necessary work. If you were still planning to donate to the current campaign, please don’t let the fact that we met our limited goal deter you. We still have a large need for funds – about $454,000.

It was wonderful to see more monthly donation commitments made and a good number of regular monthly donors increase their amounts. One supporter from Canada increased his monthly commitment from $3 to $53. Another from the United States increased her $100 a month to $500 a month. These commitments are a huge help in providing some degree of regular and reliable operating funds.

And then there were the many wonderful comments that came in with the donations. To those who sent along comments please be assured that they are all being read. Unfortunately we can’t physically respond to most of them, but we trust that you understand.

The following are just a few of the comments that came in with donations. Enjoy.

“Thank you for what you do. Take a look at the Monsignor Hugh O’Flaherty memorial.com and the movie “”The Scarlet and the Black””. In a conversation w/his holiness Pope Pius XII, Monsignor relates how his parish priest in Ireland said “”Always do what is right come hell or high water.””

Like to send more but our President is spending it too fast and it scares us! Nov. 2010 and 2012 things will change.
