Palin admits deliberating 2012 presidential bid

By Matthew Anderson

Washington, D.C., November 17, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – In an interview published on the New York Times website today, pro-life Republican Sarah Palin confirmed rumors that she is considering running for President in 2012.

When asked if she was weighing a run for the presidency, Palin said, “I’m engaged in the internal deliberations candidly, and having that discussion with my family, because my family is the most important consideration here.”

Palin said that in order for her to run for president a large amount of organizational work would need to be done and her staff would have to increase: “I’d have to bring in more people – more people who are trustworthy.”

She noted that one of the main focuses of any campaign would have to be to clarify misunderstandings about her record. “I know that a hurdle I would have to cross, that some other potential candidates wouldn’t have to cross right out of the chute, is proving my record.”

“That’s the most frustrating thing for me — the warped and perverted description of my record and what I’ve accomplished over the last two decades. It’s been much more perplexing to me than where the lamestream media has wanted to go about my personal life. “

Since rising to stardom during the 2008 election, Palin has often been criticized for her pro-life and pro-family views. However, she has remained unapologetically outspoken in defending the rights of children in the womb.

As recently as November 10, at an event hosted by the pro-life group Heroic Media, Palin charged Obama with being “the most pro-abortion president to occupy the White House” and labeled her own views “unapologetically pro-life.” She said, “Choosing life may not be the easiest path, but it’s the right choice.”

Palin has also criticized Obamacare for allowing federal tax dollars to fund abortion. She called the passage of the health care law “the biggest advance of the abortion industry in America.”

Recent polls suggest that Palin might be able to capture the Republican nomination, but a presidential campaign against Obama would be more difficult. According to an Associated Press-Gfk poll, self-identified Republicans view Palin more favorably than any other likely candidate (79%). Former Governor Mike Huckabee had a 74% favorable rating among Republicans, and former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich was viewed favorably by only 68%.

However, Palin was not nearly as popular among independents, who normally determine the direction of an election. Among those independents polled, only 43% viewed Palin favorably, compared to 61% for Obama.
