LifeSiteNews Announces New Service in Spanish

October 12, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – LifeSiteNews.com (LSN), one of the world’s largest international human life and family news agencies, officially announced its new service in Spanish today, following over two months of preparation and testing.

LSN’s Spanish service is called the Human Life and Family News Agency (Agencia de Noticias de Vida Humana y Familia), and will function under the acronym “Notifam”. The website can be found here.

The Notifam service makes up to three new LSN articles available in Spanish each day, and publishes opinion articles in a special section displayed on the right side of the page. It also maintains a running list of headlines from the English-language LSN page, to give bilingual readers access to all available stories on a daily basis.

While LSN had entertained the idea of a Spanish language service for several years, it was Magaly Llaguno, leader of the Spanish division of Human Life International, who created the impetus for the project by asking for translators for the service. After receiving responses from two translators knowledgeable about human life and family issues, LSN’s Managing Director Steve Jalsevac gave his approval to the project.

Notifam’s two translators, José Arturo Quarracino and Marlene Gillette-Ibern, both have years of experience researching and writing about human life and family issues, as well as in English-Spanish translation.

“Our new Spanish-language news service will enable LSN to reach millions of people in Latin America who are currently unable to read our English-language articles,” said Matthew Cullinan Hoffman, LSN’s Latin America Correspondent.

“This will be especially important at a time when international pro-abortion organizations like Human Rights Watch are receiving hundreds of millions of dollars in new funding, allowing them to ratchet up the pressure on Latin America to depenalize abortion and institute homosexual ‘marriage,'” added Hoffman. “We hope to develop a close collaboration with those in Latin America who understand the importance of the values of life and family, to ensure that they are able to take advantage of the vast informational resources provided by LSN and Notifam.”

LSN, founded in 1997 by Steve Jalsevac and John-Henry Westen, has grown to be one of the most widely read human life and family news services in the world, with up to one million page loads per month. Its articles are reprinted by thousands of websites and print publications worldwide, and it is read and used by leaders in the pro-life and pro-family movement, the commercial news industry, and the general public.
