23rd Annual Life Chain to Take Place across North America on Sunday October 3, 2010

By Thaddeus M. Baklinski

September 22, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The annual Life Chain, a pro-life prayer and witness event, will take place this year in cities and towns across the United States and Canada on the afternoon of Sunday, October 3, normally between 2 and 3 p.m.

In Canada, Life Chain is held simultaneously in more than 200 locations, with well over 30,000 people taking part.

Suresh Domenic, past Canadian coordinator for Life Chain at the national headquarters of Campaign Life Coalition in Toronto, said Life Chain “is for anyone who cares about the sanctity of life, of whatever faith or no faith.”

“It’s also to increase public awareness of the abortion issue and to support, through our prayers, women who have undergone abortions and their babies. We are a voice for the victims and we pray for the conversion of those who promote abortion and that those who have been hurt by it will be consoled,” Suresh noted.

Campaign Life Coalition brought Life Chain into Canada from the U.S. many years ago, igniting a powerful street witness campaign that has endured the test of years, saved lives and changed hearts.

Dominic Baklinski, a 13-year-old student who participated in last year’s Life Chain in the small Ontario town of Barry’s Bay, told LifeSiteNews, “It was really amazing to see all the people gathered to witness to life in our small town. There must have been at least 200 hundred people there, including most of the students and teachers from the college (Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy).”

“There were a lot of families with their children and lots of babies,” Dominic remarked, and added that most of the responses from passers-by and cars were positive, with only a few rude gestures.

Participants stand in witness for one hour on sidewalks along major streets in towns and cities, peacefully and prayerfully holding signs reading “Abortion Kills Children,” “Abortion Hurts Women,” “Jesus Forgives and Heals” and “Adoption: The Loving Option” before passers-by and motorists.

“This is a simple way to let people know that abortion hurts women and kills children, and I have fun with my friends while praying and witnessing to life,” Dominic said. “I’ll be there again this year.”
