Kryptonite and Saving the World

Dear Friends of Life and Family,

In many ways, LifeSiteNews is a lot like the Superman comics.

Look around the office of the series’ newspaper, the Daily Planet where Superman (alias Clark Kent) works as a reporter. Papers are flying around, Editor-in-Chief Perry White is on three phones at once, while Lois Lane frantically attempts to fit another villainous deed of Lex Luthor into the front page before the fast-approaching deadline.

Here at LifeSiteNews, Editor-in-Chief John-Henry Westen is frequently juggling three calls at once on his two landlines and cell phone from various nations, while at the same time communicating via Messenger on his computer and receiving and sending emails – no kidding! Then he is on a conference call or going in and out of his office to tend to his 7 home-schooled children. This is more than Perry White. It is truly a Superman feat.

I often find myself in a similar predicament. Our other staff often experience similar mayhem.

It often gets ridiculously wild doing this work, so much so that we can only laugh about it. And we often do. Hence today’s tongue-in-cheek analogy.

LifeSiteNews staff can relate to our comic book counterparts. We receive ominous news tips about events happening all around the world, and then carefully investigate and scrupulously write and edit reports against a tight deadline on the numerous, devastating attacks on the Culture of Life, often by truly gargantuan and sinister international forces.

The lives of millions are literally at stake, as is the very future of civilization. This is no exaggeration.

And in a sense, LifeSiteNews is a lot like the “Man of Steel” himself.

Think about it. Both Superman and LifeSiteNews have a mission to fight for the innocent and defenseless; both are attacked by powerful opponents seeking to destroy our society’s most fundamental values; both shoot lasers out of their eyes; and both are looked upon by supporters as inspirations or proxies to persevere in the face of evil.

Okay, so we don’t shoot lasers out of our eyes. But we do strive to fight evil in the world by exposing lies, promoting the Good and defeating evil – with TRUTH (our super power).

However, while LifeSiteNews strives to further the Culture of Life, we oftentimes find ourselves short of funds, an obstacle which has become – dare I say it – our kryptonite.

With your donation, we can continue to fight evil and indeed save the world.

And like Superman and the folks at the Daily Planet, LifeSiteNews, along with its other superhero pro-life allies, has witnessed some extraordinary victories.

Many of our reports in the past few weeks reveal that the good is thriving and winning astonishing victories over evil:

  • A bill that would have repealed both the law banning abortion on military bases, and prohibiting homosexuals to serve openly in the military was stopped in the US Senate
  • The amazing 40 Days for Life campaign started up again this week in a record 238 locations around the world
  • The evil Planned Parenthood empire is alarmed by Tea Party-generated successes of candidates who are pro-life without exceptions, and the defeat of candidates in favor of baby killings
  • A dangerous New Jersey abortionist who has been operating above the law for years now, is finally being brought to justice, as he is being charged by the state with “gross negligence”
  • A new mass media campaign is outing Planned Parenthood’s racist targeting of African Americans
  • In California the Knights of Columbus have donated four lifesaving 4-D ultrasound machines to crisis pregnancy centers – and they plan on donating more still
  • Archbishop Chaput and Bishop Vasa gave blockbuster, watershed talks related to the culture wars and exhorting Christians to be “stronger, bolder, more decisive” in confronting the evils of our day
  • Because of a ruling by the judge in the case of the 88 pro-life protesters arrested on the campus of Notre Dame last year, pro-life attorneys are hopeful that Notre Dame will request that the charges get dropped
  • Pope Benedict, during his historic, amazingly successful visit to the U.K., gathered and inspired millions of people, both Catholics and non-Catholics, “to change the world” and “work for a culture of life”
  • and much, much more….

It has become clear that the tides are turning.

As the U.S. approaches election season, Americans are increasingly expressing their frustration and anger at the corrupt, compromised, or just plain out of touch political establishment – in both parties. There is an obvious need for real, substantial change – a change for the Good.

LifeSiteNews invites you to share in its vision of restoring the Good by helping us fight evil, expose lies, and report the Truth.

As I write this, we have now achieved 63% of our campaign goal with 6 days remaining. That is wonderful! However, we need to meet our goal of at least $100,000 to continue our services.

You can get us over the top!

We may not be able to stop bullets, reverse time, or freeze villains with our breath. But we can save the world by promoting a positive, life-affirming culture through courageous news reporting on the most crucial issues.

Please join LifeSiteNews in the great battle between the Culture of Life and the culture of death through a generous donation of $10, $50, $150, or $500 or more today.

Even if the comic book world is fictitious, we certainly find many similarities between our world and that of the superheroes. When Lex Luthor asked Superman whether or not the world would be destroyed, the hero responded, “No. It’s the same as it’s always been: on the brink. With good fighting evil.”

Engage in fight against evil with LifeSiteNews, and help us save the world. Yes, we are on the brink, but no matter how powerful our opponents are, together, we can defeat them.
