CANADIAN GOVERNMENT TO LOWER AGE FOR HOMOSEXUAL SEX
OTTAWA, Apr 13 (LSN.ca) - A lawyer from the federal Justice Department has admitted that the government plans to lower the age of consent for anal "sex" from 18 to 16 or even 14. Bernard Starkman told the Sault Star that at least three court rulings have declared that since the legal minimum age for sodomy (anal "sex") is set at 18 whereas the age for sex is 14, the law discriminates against homosexuals. In conjunction with lowering the age of consent for sodomy, therefore, the government is also planning to raise the age of consent for (heterosexual) sex to the same 16. LifeSite reported on March 15 that the closing date for public comment on the law was March 31.
The homosexual activist group Equality for Gays and Lesbians Everywhere (EGALE) made a submission favouring lowering the age for consent for anal sex but, in an apparent attempt to pre-empt accusations of supporting pedophilia, the group carefully argued that the central issue was the discrepancy in ages and the discrimination that existed as a result of this discrepancy. The EGALE submission also encouraged sex between minors saying that "some sex may be driven underground even though it is not illegal. This is because of a lack of awareness that the age of consent does not, in fact, criminalize sexual activity among people who are "close-in-age", regardless of their age. This fact should be publicized, with particular emphasis on reaching educators, youth and youth workers."
