JUDGE BANS SOUTH CAROLINA 'CHOOSE LIFE' LICENCE PLATES
COLUMBIA, South Carolina (LifeSiteNews.com) - A federal judge declared unconstitutional South Carolina's license plates bearing the slogan "Choose Life." U.S. District Judge William Bertelsman said last week that the specialty plates, democratically approved by the state legislature in 2001, violate the First Amendment because they provide a forum for abortion foes that abortion rights supporters do not enjoy.
However, this is unlikely to be the last word. In October, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia allowed Louisiana to implement "Choose Life" plates. Scalia denied an emergency request to have the 1999 law allowing the plates, to be overturned.
