LUNCH WITH PRO-ABORTION POLITICIAN RAISES $3750 FOR CATHOLIC SCHOOL

DETROIT, February 24, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Over the objections of Catholics who have been outraged over Mercy High School's inclusion of pro-abortion Governor Jennifer Granholm in their annual fundraiser, the auction of a lunch with the governor took place this weekend. The lunch with Granholm brought $3,750 for the Farmington Hills Catholic girls school and a chance for two of its students to dine with the governor.

Earlier the school had withdrawn the controversial auction prize responding to concerns from Catholics, including concerns from the office of Detroit's Cardinal Adam Maida. However, the school later flip-flopped on the decision.

Detroit News Channel 4 says that over 100 protesters were outside during the auction.

It now remains to be seen if the school will designate the $3750 for something that will specifically counteract Granholm's defiance of church moral teaching. It will also be interesting to see if the students dining with the governor will use the occasion to address the same issue.
