RESEARCHERS SAY REPRODUCTIVE CLONING OF PRIMATES NOT POSSIBLE

PITTSBURGH, April 11, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A study published today in the journal science identifies reasons why cloning of primates - monkeys - differs from that of sheep and which make cloning of primates nearly impossible. Analysis of hundreds of failed attempts to clone rhesus monkeys, found that the removal of nuclei from oocytes stripped proteins essential for proper cell division. The researchers said that the findings put "a nail in the coffin of reproductive cloning."

However, the same scientists continue to support therapeutic cloning.
