PARTIAL CLONING BAN WITH 8 YEAR PRISON PENALTY COMING IN SLOVAKIA

BRATISLAVA, April 30, 2003 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A draft rewrite of Slovakia's criminal law agreed to by the country's legal cabinet committee April 15 would see some human reproductive and therapeutic cloning banned. Violators would face up to eight years in prison.

However, the legislation as described by local media covers only cloning which results in humans at any stage of development which are "genetically identical" to another human being. Experts in the field have warned for years that such terminology would fail to ban all cloning procedures since several do not create "genetically identical" copies of other human beings.
