Nine Hungarian Hospitals Agree to Halt Abortions on National Holidays

BUDAPEST, January 6, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Pro-life efforts in Hungary have led directors and ob/gyn departments at nine hospitals to agree to not to perform abortions on three new national holidays: March, 25th (Day of the Unborn Child), June, 1st (International Day of Life by UN) and on December, 28th (Feast of Holy Innocents).

The concession comes after the largest pro-life group in the country, Alpha Alliance for Protecting Unborn, Newborn Babies, Children and Families in cooperation with the U.S.-based Helpers of God's Precious Infants and 18 other pro-life organizations held a 400-strong pro-life procession and prayer vigil in Budapest on December 27. The event commenced with a Mass celebrated by Bishop Laszlo Biro representing the Hungarian Catholic Bishops Conference.

Dr. Imre Teglasy, PhD. founder and secretary-general of Alpha Alliance, noted that the press coverage of the event was significantly boosted by a Hungarian radio reporter troubled by the then-upcoming event who said on Radio Forbidden (Tilos Radio) that he would exterminate all Christians from Hungarian society.

To send congratulations to the pro-life group email:
