President Bush and Governor Schwarzenegger Speak out on San Fran Gay "Marriages"
SAN FRANCISCO, February 18, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Given that more than 3000 homosexual activist couples have used illegally issued marriage licences in San Francisco, both President Bush and California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger have made statements opposing the 'marriages'.
Governor Schwarzenegger recalled that by handing out the licenses, the city was violating California's Proposition 22, but he only encouraged a halt to the abuse rather than terminating it. "Californians spoke on the issue of same-sex marriage when they overwhelmingly approved California's law that defines marriage as being between a man and a woman. I support that law, and I encourage San Francisco officials to obey that law," he said.
Meanwhile, President Bush was asked about the San Francisco developments and the fact that the Massachusetts court ruling would lead to the first legally recognized homosexual 'marriages' by May. The President responded: "I strongly believe that marriage should be defined as between a man and a woman. I am troubled by activist judges who are defining marriage. I have watched carefully what's happened in San Francisco, where licenses were being issued even though the law states otherwise. I have consistently stated that if -- I'll support law to protect marriage between a man and a woman. And obviously these events are influencing my decision."
