Court Ruling on Child Support has Sperm Donors Thinking Twice

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania, July 29, 2004 (LifeSiteNews.com) - A Penn state appeals court has ruled that the verbal agreement between a sperm donor and the mother of their child is not binding, meaning he is now obliged to pay child support.

A decision by three judges stated that the deal between Joel McKiernan and Ivonne Ferguson -- where McKiernan would be under no obligation to support his offspring --was moot, due to "legal, equitable and moral principles."

"It is in the interest of the children we hold most dear,"' Judge Patrick Tamalia wrote in his decision.
