Commentary on July 14 News - FOCA very much alive, LSN role in L'Osservatore Romano correction, Michael O'Brien analysis and D&P, Harry Potter again

Dear Readers,

The Obama administration, despite the president's disarming image, is proving every day to be as extreme on abortion as one can possibly imagine. The new science Czar, Harvard professor John Holdren, is another proof for those who are still determined to hear no evil and see no evil. One notable exception may be the new Surgeon General but, based on all that has gone on so far, final judgement on that one will be reserved.

"FOCA is dead", many have been saying, and we have warned repeatedly that the Democrats’ strategy is to bring FOCA in by stealth - and that is what they are doing.

LifeSiteNews played a key role in efforts that finally succeeded in bringing about the publication in L'Osservatore Romano of the Vatican clarification vindicating Brazilian Archbishop Cardoso. More important, however, was the fact that the clarification corrected the damaging misunderstanding in the world press that the Vatican was softening its stand on abortion. This had to be corrected and that is why LifeSiteNews and others put such enormous effort into the issue.

Michael O'Brien has just published on his website his analysis of the Pope's new encyclical Caritas in Veritate. A significant portion of the analysis includes commentary about the Canadian Development and Peace scandal as it relates to the encyclical and confirms our concerns about D&P. In addition to those comments, excerpted as an LSN story today, we have also published Michael's full commentary as a Special Report.

Here we go on Harry Potter again and we expect the usual harsh response to today's report on L'Osservatore Romano's article praising the latest Potter movie. The trend of very concerning stories from L'Osservatore Romano seems to have first surfaced when the April 3rd edition of the Vatican newspaper paid unlikely tribute to the 1969 hippie film Easy Rider. That dumbfounded many faithful Catholics who were aware of the raunchy content in that movie of questionable value.

Archbishop Chaput has some very pertinent comments on today's media that would seem to affirm the need for a service such as LifeSiteNews.
