QUOTE OF THE DAY

In this quote from one of today's UN press releases Secretary General Kofi Anan points to "exclusionary identities" such as religion as "forces of fragmentation" threatening world peace. As such it must be "confront(ed) and restrain(ed)".

"The assertion of exclusionary identities -- ethnic, religious, national, tribal -- has intensified. We must take great care to recognize, confront and restrain the forces of fragmentation, lest they destroy the potential for peace and progress that the new era holds in store."
