HUMAN CLONING A STEP CLOSER
WASHINGTON, Oct 13 (LSN) - On Friday the Washington Post reported that scientists at New York University have successfully mixed parts of two women's ova and fertilized the resulting egg. They have attempted implantation of the embryos created in this fashion twice and are awaiting the results of the second attempt. The first embryo failed to implant in the womb.
The procedure is alarmingly similar to the touted cloning procedure in that both procedures involve the introduction of genetic material from a third party into the creation of an embryo. With cloning all the genetic info of one person is placed into the "shell" of a embryonic cell. Jamie Grifo lead researcher in the human experimentation said that the procedure was similar enough to cloning to be illegal in California.
