BEARING DISABLED BABIES TO BE SINFUL
Britain To Screen All Babies For Down's Syndrome
LONDON, July 13 (LSN) - Bob Edwards, one of a pair of scientists responsible for the birth of the first test tube baby - Louise Brown - said at a recent conference on fertility that "soon it will be a sin of parents to have a child that carries the heavy burden of genetic disease." The Sunday Times reported July 4th that the conference of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology is taking place in France while in England, doctors are about to present a report to parliament outlining a programme to test all babies to be screened in utero for Down's syndrome.
A firm advocate of eugenics, Edwards unabashedly said, "we are entering a world where we have to consider the quality of our children." Some Down's Syndrome support groups in England are protesting the screening the primary purpose of which is to offer the option of abortion to parents.
