NDP CABINET MINISTER SETTLES SLANDER SUIT AGAINST PRO-LIFER

VANCOUVER, Feb 8, 2001 (LSN.ca) - Well known pro-life activist John Hof, president of Campaign Life Coalition British Columbia, has received an "out of court" settlement of $25,000 from NDP Minister of Labour, Hon. Joan Smallwood. The agreement stems from remarks made in the media by Ms. Smallwood about Mr. Hof, spuriously linking him to an attack against an abortionist.

"I hope this incident serves as an example to everyone with strongly held views about pro-lifers. People, particularly government officials, should not repeat misinformation just to further a political agenda," said Hof in a press release. "This settlement is a small victory for me, but more than that it is a major victory for British Columbians who share my respect for life. It proves we have a right to our viewpoints without fear of being demonized by government representatives." Hof told LifeSite he continues to pray for Smallwood every day.

Premier Ujjal Dosangh confirmed that taxpayers will pay for the settlement, reported the Vancouver Province. Smallwood, said the New Democratic Party government would also cover Hof's legal fees of $3,000.

CANADIAN GOV'T AND UNITED WAY SPONSOR S&M SEX WORKSHOP FOR 14-YEAR-OLDS

BARRIE, ON, Feb 8, 2001 (LSN.ca) - A "Youth Conference" for young people between 14-29 to be held Saturday at Georgian College in Barrie will feature a workshop on practicing "safe" sado-masochistic sex. The Barrie Examiner reports that Duncan MacLachlan, executive producer of the Mr. Leatherman Toronto competition - a major event of the Toronto S&M community - will present the workshop. An ad for the conference on the web page of the AIDS Committee of Simcoe County lists Health Canada and the United Way Young Adult Initiative as sponsors of the event. Other sponsors include the Civic Renewal Project, Gay and Lesbian Alliance of Simcoe County and Think Clear.

The Examiner reports that it was organized by the AIDS Committee of Simcoe County, the Healthy Communities Coalition and the United Way Young Adult Initiative. AIDS committee spokesperson, Gina Frederick, told the Examiner that the S&M workshop will be open to all registered for the conference regardless of age. On the subject of S&M she said, "It's a very specialized sexual activity and requires more care and more education. MacLachlan will discuss how to reduce the risks of engaging in that kind of activity."

Joy Webster, of the United Way's Young Adult Initiative, said Wednesday there had been an "overwhelming response" to the conference, but that she'd heard from only one parent thus far who had concerns about that particular workshop.

ABORTED BABIES BEING DUMPED IN SEWERS IN SOUTH AFRICA

EAST CAPE, South Africa, Feb 8, 2001 (LSN.ca) - The legalization of abortion in South Africa in 1996 has led to an utter disregard for unborn children as evidenced in a report indicating that the bodies of aborted babies are being thrown into sewers. Christian Martin, a member of the provincial legislature in South Africa's province of East Cape, called on the government to have police investigate and put a stop to the practice.

CLINTON ADMINISTRATION BENT RULES IN APPROVING RU-486

WASHINGTON, Feb 8, 2001 (LSN.ca) - It has been discovered that the Federal Drug Agency approved the abortion drug RU-486 (Mifepristone) surreptitiously last September. The National Review (NR) reported yesterday that Mifepristone was approved under a fast-track drug-approval process intended only to be used, according to FDA regulations, for safe and effective treatments "for serious or life-threatening illnesses".

The drug was approved in a memo from an unnamed FDA official to Sandra P. Arnold, the Population Council's vice president of corporate affairs, on September 28. In the memo, the FDA stated that mifepristone should enjoy the benefit of this provision because "the termination of an unwanted pregnancy is a serious condition within the scope of (the fast-track regulations)".

NR reports that until RU-486, only 30 drugs had ever been approved under the fast-track exception - half of those being for the treatment of HIV/AIDS and the rest for other debilitating diseases, such as cancer, tuberculosis, and leprosy. As for the requirements of safety and effectiveness these too are unfulfilled with mifepristone. An FDA study found mifepristone abortions caused "more adverse events, particularly bleeding, than did surgical abortion." Other side effects to the abortion drug including cramping, nausea, and vomiting, were far more prevalent among the women taking RU-486 than among women undergoing regular abortions.

U.S. NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH ABORTED BABY EXPERIMENTS EXPOSED

NIH Creating Animal-Human Creature for Experimentation

WASHINGTON, Feb 8, 2001 (LSN.ca) - In likely one of the most complete and telling exposés on the horrific research funded and encouraged by the National Institutes of Health, Terence P. Jeffrey of Human Events details the mass production of mouse-human chimera's for research into AIDS. Jeffrey writes, "Every one of these most peculiar rodents requires live tissue extracted from the liver and thymus of a human child-and every child who donates tissue to create such mice is first killed by a medical doctor. They are victims of abortions that cannot take place until at least the eighth week of pregnancy, when the fetal liver is finally formed."

In his long, but well-worth it piece, Jeffrey names companies, schools and individuals involved in the experiments and shows why intact late-term aborted babies (read partial-birth abortion) are so valuable to these macabre scientists.
