The closing of a private abortion clinic in Fredericton, New Brunswick has caused hysterics among Canada’s abortion activists usually reserved for Parliamentary pro-life motions. Columns full of rhetorical questions that prove devastatingly stupid as soon as they’re answered have been filling Canadian newspapers.
Anne Theriault, a “feminist blogger” for the Huffington Post, wrote a column called “If Fredericton’s Morgentaler Clinic Closes, Women Will Die.” “What century are we living in?” she howls.
Well this one, Ms. Theriault. In which we have embryology, and ultrasound machines, and videos of babies growing inside the womb that neatly implode the idiotic “clump of cells” argument your people used last century. Also, if you don’t mind, human rights for human beings would be nice.
Over at rabble.ca, Jody Dallaire was also in fine form with a hilariously titled article “Law over ideology please, we’re talking abortion rights here.” “Can someone please explain to me when a safe and legal abortion to end an unwanted pregnancy is not a medical necessity?” Dallaire demands.
Well, sure, since you asked so nicely. In the words of Dr. Alan Guttmacher, who served as the president of Planned Parenthood: “Today it is possible for almost any patient to be brought through any pregnancy alive, unless she suffers from a fatal illness such as cancer or leukemia, and if so, abortion would be unlikely to prolong much less save a life.” That was in 1967. We’ve come a long way since last century. Abortion is the violent termination of a developing human being. That’s not “medicine,” Ms. Dallaire. That’s “barbarism.”
And then we have an article over at Gender Focus called “This Is My Rally Cry: #NBProchoice,” by Kathleen Pyle, the Irony Queen.
“It takes a special kind of person to work at an Abortion Clinic…” she writes, “It’s something you’re born with. Perhaps better worded—it’s something you’re born to do.”

Well, unless you end up another victim of Ms. Pyle carnivorous ideology, of course, in which case you won’t be born at all. You’ve got to first make it through the birth canal, where you can undergo the wonderful and magical transformation from fetus to (apparently) Abortion Clinic Worker. Ms. Pyle also bemoans the fact that her birth-mother would not have been able to abort her, and was forced to put her up for adoption. I find the type of self-loathing that muses wistfully about ending up in a garbage can behind the abortion clinic rather than volunteering in front of it quite confusing, but rationality does not seem to be a feminist strong point.
And through all of these blathering columns, the same, tired, debunked argument is trotted out: “Women will die if you don’t give them all the abortions they demand!” the abortion-pushers warn us darkly. As I wrote back in 2011, when the low abortion rate on Prince Edward Island was enraging them:
The article is entitled “Group demands information on abortion rights,” and states that “Pro-choice advocates on P.E.I. say a lack of information is one of the reasons the province’s abortion rate is less than half the national average.” The article further cites the fact that “the national average shows that in 2008 for every 100 live births, there were 25 abortions. On P.E.I. the figure is just under 10.”
Here, the greatest myth that abortion advocates try to disseminate is proven false: That if direct access to abortion is denied, the abortion rate will stay the same, abortion businesses will go underground, and women will die miserably in the hands of back alley butchers. It is, by far, leading abortion advocate Joyce Arthur’s favourite mantra: Illegal abortion will cause the deaths of thousands of women!
The abortion rate in Prince Edward Island is less than half of what it is in the rest of Canada, presumably because of the lack of access abortion advocates are so enraged about. Which then proves two points: Restricting access to abortion will lower the abortion rate, in defiance of what abortion advocates claim. And second, women who, according to abortion advocates, have little or no access to abortion are not dying gruesome deaths in back alleys—they are simply finding other alternatives—alternatives that incidentally do not involve dismembering a pre-born child. Where are the coat hangers? I see only babies.
Notice that abortion advocates do not actually want abortion to be “safe, legal, and rare,” as it actually is in the Maritimes. They want abortion to be common, since they point to low abortion rates as a problem to be solved, not a victory to celebrate. Furthermore, in spite of all their bluster about pro-lifers forcing our view that all humans should have human rights down their throats, what they’re actually asking for is that we the taxpayers fund the extermination of their pre-born children. Their fictitious “right to an abortion” is somehow simultaneously 100% none of our business and 100% our financial responsibility.
Perhaps the clueless Kathleen Pyle put it best. “In a democracy,” she writes, “when you oppress part of the community, you oppress all of the community. This isn’t a ‘women’s only’ issue, this is a social issue.”
Indeed, Ms. Pyle. But the unfortunate reality in Canada is that human beings in the womb are the actual group being oppressed, since under Canadian law and in your scientifically illiterate ideology, they can be killed on a whim in the most gruesome fashion. Women in the Maritimes are not being “oppressed” because Canadians aren’t paying to off their pre-born children. The youngest members of our species are being oppressed by people like you and the rest of the abortion activists loudly insisting that we haven’t shed enough blood yet.
