March 21, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A Massachusetts woman is being hailed as a hero after deliberately laying down in front of her car, to stop it from rolling into traffic with her 2-year-old daughters buckled in the back seat.

But Mindy Tran, 22, who suffered a broken leg and dislocated shoulder and hip, says she simply did what any mom would have done. “I don’t consider myself a hero,” she told ABC News. “I am just a mother.”

Tran had just finished locking the door on her Lawrence, Massachusetts apartment earlier this month when she turned around and saw that her car was starting to roll down the driveway towards the busy street.

She says that her first instinct was to get behind the car to try to stop it by pushing. But when that didn’t work, she realized that she needed to do something more.

“My daughters are my everything, my everything, and I don't want to see them in the hospital, and I knew at that time it was either mine or their's,” she told WCVB.

At that point, she says, “I laid down horizontally, using my body as a speed bump to stop the car.”

It was a dramatic step, but it worked. With the car stopped neighbors then arrived to help get the two girls out of the car.

Shortly thereafter the fire department also arrived. Firefighters stabilized the car with blocks, and removed the car from Tran by using an airbag.

She was airlifted to a nearby hospital.

Though Tran has already had multiple surgeries and has a long ways to go to recover completely, she has no doubts that it was worth it.

“It was all for my kids. I’m just glad my kids are fine,” she said.
