MOLD, Wales, April 23,2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The crown prosecutor in the trial of a young boy accused of raping a male classmate in the washroom of their Colwyn Bay school told the jury at Mold Crown Court that the defendant viewed online pornography and was “acting out” scenes he had seen.

Prosecutor Karl Scholz said it was “frankly troubling” to find allegations “of crime of this level against someone so young,” according to a Telegraph report.

“It is almost certain that in this case, what was being done was to act out what had been seen in pornographic material,” Scholz said in opening remarks at the trial, which began April 22.

He said the jury may conclude that what lay behind the alleged incident was the availability of pornography on the internet. “It is that which may lie behind the corruption of the minds of the people involved in this case,” Scholz said.

The court heard that the defendant, 10 years old at the time of the alleged incident in 2012, approached a fellow pupil during an English class and asked if he wanted to have sex with him.

“It was an unusual question for a 10-year-old boy to ask another,” Scholz said.

Thinking he was joking, the other boy replied, “No way.”

But after the lesson the alleged victim said he went to the washroom and, as he was about to leave, he claimed the defendant came in, pushed him over a sink, and raped him.

The complainant said he told the other boy to stop, to which the defendant allegedly replied, “Oh come on, the party’s just starting.”

Scholz stated that in another incident the defendant tried to pull the boy’s trousers down as he washed his hands after using the toilet and when the boy would not let him the defendant allegedly said, “Why not? It’s fun.”

The court was told that the complainant was embarrassed and feared that he would be called a homosexual, so he kept the incidents to himself.

However, the allegations came out in March last year, when teachers spoke to the alleged victim about rumors in the school that he had touched his girlfriend inappropriately. The boy then told his teachers about the alleged rape, and repeated the story to his parents, who reported it to police.

The defendant, now 12 years old, pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and inciting his classmate to engage in sexual activity.

The trial, before Judge Philip Hughes, is continuing.
