DEHRADUN, INDIA, March 19, 2014 (LifeSiteNews.com) – Police have arrested a 25-year-old security guard on charges that he raped a 16-year-old girl, then forced her to have an abortion.

Officers have filed a legal complaint against a man they have identified only as “Pintu,” a bank guard in the northern Indian city of Dehradun.

The suspect allegedly raped the teenager, then compelled her to abort their child about seven months ago, according to the Times of India.

The girl sank into an emotional abyss following the abortion, according to the city's senior superintendent of police, Ajay Rautela. “After remaining depressed for a long time, the girl finally narrated her entire ordeal to her mother. Following this, her father lodged a complaint against Pintu,” he said.

Authorities have charged the man with rape and forcible abortion. Involuntary abortion is a violation of Indian law that could result in imprisonment ranging from 10 years to life, as well as a fine.

Pedophiles and rapists around the world look at abortion, including forced abortion, as a convenient method of covering up their crimes.

Studies have found that depression is a common side effect of abortion, forcible or otherwise.
