ESSEX, Ontario, February 25, 2013, (LifeSiteNews.com) – A pro-life MP is running a survey on his website to see where Canadians stand on fully taxpayer-funded abortion as a “basic woman's right”.

As of this writing, 76 percent of the 3,392 pollsters support “fully taxpayer-funded abortion, at any time in the pregnancy, for any reason at all”.

Only 10 percent support a complete ban on abortion, while nine percent said that they would support some legal restrictions on access to abortion.

The context for the poll, which recently appeared on the website of MP Jeff Watson (Essex), reads: “Recently, as parliament debated M-312 to establish a committee to re-examine Canada's 400 year-old law defining a human being, the founder and Executive Director of the Abortion Rights Coalition of Canada called fully taxpayer-funded abortion, at any time, for any reason – including for sex-selection or as birth control – a basic woman's right”.

Last year Watson voted in favour of MP Stephen Woodworth's Motion 312 to study whether a child in the womb is a human being based on evidence provided by up-to-date medical science.

LifeSiteNews.com contacted Watson by e-mail and asked what sparked the poll and what he would do with the results, but did not hear back by press time.

While the results of the survey are unscientific, the poll gives pro-lifers an opportunity to voice their opinion and help shape the future of Canada.
