EQUADOR TRIBUNAL TO PUNISH REFUSAL TO DO ABORTIONS

QUITO, Equador, Dec 22 (LSN.ca) – Feminist organizations in Equador have set up tribunals operating within the legal framework of the government which will investigate violations of “gender rights” including the “refusal to perform legal abortions.” The tribunals also investigate and push for punishments for true violations against women’s rights such as forced sterilization and forced abortion.

Equador permits abortions in cases where the “health” of the mother is at risk, but the legislation fails to define health so that both physical and mental health considerations are considered.
